We use search techniques that most people would not know about. It is not enough to just hang flyers, although that is a first step.
We actively search door to door and interview people in the vicinity. With permission, we search under decks, in sheds, and other out buildings. We alert the Humane Societies and breed specific rescue organizations. We alert the mailman, delivery services, and local police.
If there have been sightings, we set live traps when your lost pet refuses to approach people. When the lost pet is a dog we use a 'magnet' dog since most dogs will approach another dog.
We have an understanding of animal behavior and know that different breeds exhibit different behaviors. For example: a Labrador may run into the nearest woods to hunt, while a Poodle may hide and cower. This knowledge is an important tool in our search techniques.
There are many reasons a pet will become missing; some of them are very ominous. 'Dog Bunchers' are a group of people who steal pets for profit. They sell them to various research facilities for a few dollars or to puppy mills for breeding. They target animals who are left unattended in vehicles, in your own yard, and pets who have escaped from their home or pet carrier. They also target pets who have run away in fear from a thunderstorm, crowd, or passing vehicles.
Whatever the reason your pet is missing,
time is of the essence!
